In big cities it is difficult to
find spacious apartments. At least at affordable prices… Very often, they are
small. Or we are in a studio-type accommodation. Anyway, even if we have an
apartment in the mountains or by the sea, the rooms will be small. And it will
be necessary to redouble ingenuity to fit everything into the room. That is to
say, a bed, storage space, and space to move around (incidentally). Here is an
article on the different types of beds, and how to optimize the space in a
room.
THERE IS NO MIRACLE SOLUTION
As soon as a room goes below the
10 m2 bar, space becomes limited. We must then think about what we are going to
buy as furniture, and especially how to arrange them.
Not everyone has the luxury of
space. This is why there are very practical integrated solutions
The first thing to know is that
there is no miracle solution ... If a preconceived solution existed, it would
know. Certainly, there are sites like Pinterest which offer many photos and
ideas for the arrangement, but difficult to find an identical room to the
centimeter ready, with the openings in the same places and the same taste in
terms of colors and furniture ...
A good place to start in finding what
is right for your room is whether you live alone or as a couple. From the
moment a person lives alone, positioning a bed against a wall is not a heresy
... For two people, the bed must be in the middle of the room, with a lane of
at least 30 cm to bypass the reads without being embarrassed.
Finally, the bed remains the key
element of the bedroom. It is therefore not on him that we will save money. But
rather on the rest ... At least, it will be for the rest to adapt to the bed
and its measures. Modest measures, but a 140 cm is nothing extravagant for
comfort, especially for two.
And if we need to save space on
the dimensions of the bed, it will be done on the frame. Often non-existent on
bed-boxes, for example.
STORAGE BED, THE OPTION FOR DISCREET STORAGE
The storage bed offers this
possibility of having discreet, but precious storage. We all remember the
drawers under our beds when we were kids. It's the same principle. Except that,
since there is no room for drawers, we use a bed that lifts. By raising the box
spring, you have access to a storage box that covers the entire surface of the
underside of the bed.
It is an ideal place to store
things that you need little or no daily. For example, quilts, spare sheets,
travel bags, etc. The bed trunk will show its limits if it is started to be
used as an extension of a wardrobe or as a replacement for it. Opening and
closing is not the most practical. And above all, it's impossible with someone
on it.
THE FOLD-AWAY BED OR MURPHY BED
This is not a joke, and it is
indeed real. The fold-away bed saves significant floor space. We open it in the
evening, and close it in the morning. He lifts himself up in a cupboard along
the wall.
Which is precisely its downside
... When it is stored, you have a 150 cm cabinet that takes your wall and you
have no storage. In addition, you must remove the objects that are in the path
before opening it. However, for those for whom space is at a premium, there is
no better solution.
THE BRIDGE BED, THE INTEGRATED SOLUTION
The bridge bed offers the
solution of an all-in-one furniture with a wardrobe adapted to the bed and a
bed integrated into the wardrobe. The bed does not "tuck away" in the
wardrobe, but the wardrobe bridges the bed to provide new storage space above the
pillows.
It is a practical solution, but
it is relatively more expensive. Often, the bridge bed requires measurement and
custom construction. This, in order to optimize the size and take advantage of
every available centimeter. In a rental, that doesn't make much sense. But as
an owner, the investment is clearly worth it and quickly pays for itself in
terms of quality of life and amount of storage space.
Especially since it is possible
to add drawers under the bed or to use a storage bed with a bridge bed.
To save space, bed boxes,
retractable beds or others make it possible to find space where it is lost.
OTHER POSSIBLE AND CHEAPER SOLUTIONS?
For those on a budget and for
people who place little importance on the image or the bedroom, there are other
turnkey solutions.
Namely, the bunk bed or mezzanine.
With a mezzanine bed, we gain space on the ground. The bed is raised 1.5 m from
the floor, or more. This frees up the space under the bed to install a desk,
storage, a sofa, etc. It is also an ideal solution for children's rooms. The
only condition for installing one is to have a high ceiling and not be under
the roof.
Finally, the sofa bed seems to
have been forgotten. Ultra-practical and discreet, the sofa bed has the double
function of being a sofa during the day and a bed at night. Far from the old
sofa that we have all known, the current models are very comfortable. In
addition to being very practical. The bed is efficient and only takes a few
seconds to open / close. And the mattresses can be up to 16cm thick, making
them real beds!
